Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

Is 50,000 Rs. price tag for a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 suitable? If this tab can really compete iPad ? Should you go for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 or iPad? We are here to answer all your question mentioned above. Before the review, let’s have a look at what’s packed up in Galaxy Note 10.1.
Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with the same faux leather back panel seen in Galaxy Note 3. It comes with a 10.1 inch screen with SuperClear LCD display. The screen comes with a resolution of 2560x1600pixels along with pixel density of 299ppi. A 1.9GHz and 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM powers the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. It offers an internal memory of 32GB along with microSD support upto 64GB. For the camera part it comes with 8MP rear snapper and 2Mp front snapper both capable of recording full HD 1080p videos. For the connectivity part, it has 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth. It comes with Android 4.3 out of the box and a 8,220 mAh battery powers the tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Full Review

samsung galaxy note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
Design: Even though the body is made up if plastic material but that does not necessarily mean that it feels cheap. IT portrays the same design as seen in Galaxy Note 3. A leather finish on the back panel adds a premium feel. Also the plastic has been so carved and processed to provide a metallic appearance. This could be seen in ridged trimming on the side and solid build quality. Overall the build quality is really impressive without any doubt. The stylus also fits in just perfect with that click sound whenever you insert/remove it.
Screen: This is so far the best resolution screen by Samsung and the result is a better experience while reading or watching movies or anything. However this high end display does lead a burden on the processor. By far the display can compete with iPad or any other tab in the market.
Performance: Even though Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with two processors but the result is opposite to the expectation. The expectation of the device performing really smooth somehow gets nullified as you operate the tablet. To see the lag you don’t even need to use any high end app. Samsung TouchWiz UI itself shows a lag. SO you can get an idea of the lagging when multitasking or running a high end game or app. For a price of Rs. 50,000, this problem is definitely unacceptable.
Memory: Memory parts turns out to similar to the other tabs of the price segment. With 32GB internal memory, it provides with 26GB of user accessible memory and also provides option for microSD card upto 64GB.
Connectivity: Note 10.1 comes with all the basic connectivity option like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth including 3G sim card support.
Software: Samsung TouchWiz and multitasking features impresses the most when on a large screen device. Doing to tasks simultaneously becomes really handy and easy when you have a large screen device. iPad seems to get a disadvantage in these terms.
samsung galaxy note 10.1
Though as usual Samsung packing up unnecessary apps with the software bundle which one hardly use is old unnecessary practice. You cannot remove them so you end up with useless apps taking up your RAM and memory.
Camera: 8MP rear snapper in Note 10.1 is improved version of its predecessor. Also this camera and iPad 4 camera lies on the same par on almost every aspect. However, each one has its own advantage. iPad 4 where is still holding the title of better focusing ability, Samsung retains the advantage of low-light shots with better flash.
Battery: Compared to iPad, Galaxy Note 10.1 falls behind. Till date no any tablet has been able to compete the backup time of an iPad. Galaxy Note 10.1 offers a nine hours of continuous video playback and around 8 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. Average usages patterns shows around 15 hours of battery life.
Bonus feature: Samsung Stylus coupled with air command is the special pack up Samsung has to offer. Something which may change your way of using the tablets. The S-Pen is remarkable and coupled with the Air Command, tasks like taking notes, draw sketches or anything else becomes really easy and also interesting.
Verdict: Samsung does provide a good package seeing the S-Pen with Air Command, Enahnced display and camera, but the price tag of Galaxy Note 10.1 marked at 49,990 Rs is the deal breaker. We could have provided you with a good to go suggestion if it had been priced at something around 36,000Rs. to 38,000Rs. We do expect a price fall and if it does fall in the category mentioned before, it will definitely be a good value for money product but at the moment it is overpriced.

Lenovo To Buy Motorola For $2.91 Billion

It seems Motorola is being flipped over form one company to another. We saw in 2012 that Google bought Motorola for 12.5 billion USD. This made Google owner of Motorola and its patents. However recently the news popped up and Lenovo confirmed it that it would be buying Motorola for a 2.91 billion USD. This price is approximately 4 times less than what Google paid. However, the price difference is rectified by the fact that Google would be keeping a majority of Motorola’s Mobile patents.

Lenovo to buy Motorola Mobility from Google for $2.91 billion

Lenovo to be buying motorola
Not only this, it seems that Lenovo is out on a buyout, as earlier this week Lenovo said they would be buying IBM’s low-end server business for $2.3 billion.
Commenting in this deal Larry Page, CEO, Google said that Google would be best served by focusing on smartphone software rather than devices.
Lenovo plans to compete against Apple and Samsung and not to forget the increasingly aggressive Chinese smartphone makers in the highly lucrative U.S. arena.
Lenovo has been putting up its best by making his deals and buyout a profitable. Back in 2005, when Lenovo bought IBM’s Personal Computer Division, they worked their way out to be termed as the World’s Largest PC market.
“Using Motorola, just as Lenovo used the IBM ThinkPad brand, to gain quick credibility and access to desirable markets and build critical mass makes a lot of sense,” – Forrester Research analyst Frank Gillett.
Though Motorola has not been making into a huge sale figure but recent launches in collaboration with Google were pretty impressive. Even though, Motorola’s brand popularity will give Lenovo a head start in the market and combined with their efforts they might be in the larding market. Though it will take time to find that.
As per the reports, Lenovo would be the owner of 2,000 “patent assets” after this Motorola Deal. So far For making Motorola under Lenovo, Lenovo will pay $660 million in cash, $750 million in Lenovo ordinary shares, and another $1.5 billion in the form of a three-year promissory note, Lenovo and Google said in a joint statement.
Lenovo to buy motorola for 2.91billion dollar
The acquisition of such an iconic brand, innovative product portfolio and incredibly talented global team will immediately make Lenovo a strong global competitor in smartphones,” Lenovo’s chief executive, Yang Yuanqing, said in a statement.
“It all points to Google thinking in the short run that they’re better off betting on Samsung and keeping them close. And of course now they’re enabling a second strong runner (Lenovo) in the Android ecosystem.” – Carolina Milanesi, Tech Device Analyst, Kantar WorldPanel ComTech.
The Google Motorola Acquisition was being termed as Google’s way to get Motorola’s Trove of patents. They claimed that the deal was not made because Google wanted to make a role in Handset business. However their anticipation of Google selling out Motorola hardware division just after claiming the ownership of Patents seemed to fail and came as a surprise to them as Google did launched some handsets and worked on its marketing. It seems that Google wanted to try out if they can make the brand Motorola into something more profitable or not. Though the hardware division was not sold immediately but Google did sell Motorola’s cable television set-top box business to Arris Group Inc for $2.35 billion at the end of 2012.
“The smartphone market is super competitive, and to thrive it helps to be all-in when it comes to making mobile devices. This move will enable Google to devote our energy to driving innovation across the Android ecosystem, for the benefit of smartphone users everywhere.” Blog Post – Google’s Page.
This deal and Lenovo will now be deciding the fate of Motorola Brand. Not needed to mention but Motorola was not seeing great days in terms of sale figures. Let’s see if Lenovo can grab a market position in the highly competitive smartphone market or not.
